Second chance

The van is back from the shop and seems to be running well. They asked my husband if I drove it into a lake. It seems water got sucked up into the engine and they had to flush the oil several times. Ugh! After enduring teasing all evening about driving into the water - he called me captain Nemo - I'll be more careful when I encounter standing water.

The van is in the shop

What a week. On Sunday my husband went to church early - this summer he's helping with the kids program during our first service. He forgot something and called to ask me to bring it. My 15 month old and I got in the van and we were off. (My other daughter and son spent the weekend with grandparents - thank you grandparents!)

Sunday morning a storm knocked out our power and dumped a lot of water. I made a poor decision and drove through about eight inches of water (it was up to the top of the curb). The van died on me and wouldn't start back up. I flagged down a couple of men who helped me push the van out of the water and then into a parking spot at the YMCA. One of the men asked if I wanted to call my husband. I called my husband and let him know I wouldn't be at church. Then I got the stroller out and Kristin and I walked home - I'm not sure my sandals will ever be the same.

We thought that maybe after the van had time to dry out it would start - but it didn't. Tuesday night the tow truck came and now the van is in the shop.

After a frustrating Sunday we were looking forward to Monday night. Our plan was to make an offer on a house we really liked. Monday came and with it the news that Kevin makes a couple thousand dollars too much for us to to buy the house. Big disappointment. The house was remodeled by the Lansing Housing Coalition so the government stipulates that to buy it you have to be in a certain income range. We are back to looking for a house.

One positive about Monday was we had dinner with our senior pastor and his family.
The kids loved the Burger King playland and we enjoyed our visit.
Thanks Joel and Tracy!

I still choose to believe that God is in control and after hearing the discouraging news on Monday I looked up and read Romans 8:26-28 in The Message and it spoke to me right where I'm at. There was a phrase in it that I'd never noticed before - it was there just for me at this time.

Robots

My son is five years old and he is interested in robots. He wants to build them and has all kinds of ideas about what they should look like and what they should be able to do.
My husband and I want to encourage this interest. Our son can learn a lot about science and math especially electronics and computer programming as he learns how robots are built and programmed.
As I get ready to start homeschooling in the fall I'm looking for that balance of challenging the kids academically but not pushing them too hard. I really want the kids to love learning.
