Chiggers

The kids and I had a good visit with my parents in Michigan.

The older two like to make trails in the weeds. They've been planning since our last visit how they would make their "weed house". Well, the weather was nice and they spent a couple of afternoons out in the weeds. And, they came home with bug bites.

I don't know what chicken pox look like and there were so many bites that I thought maybe... Well, I took them to the doctor and she diagnosed "Chigger bites".

"Maybe chicken pox" did get quite the reaction from the office staff - right away we were ushered through a back hall into a back room that is rarely used -I guess they don't want to risk having other patients exposed. I fed the kids Cheerios and filled out new patient info for the two older kids since this is the first time they've been to the doctor in over a year. I thought for sure they'd been to the doctor but I guess they've just gone with me for the two younger kids checkups. Our regular doctor was out so we saw one of her partners who happens to go to our church. It was nice to see a familiar face and she was great with the kids. She even sat down on the floor where I was because I had been changing a stinky diaper. She's got more than 3 kids so was quite comfortable in the crowded room. I was just so thankful she didn't make me feel dumb for bringing the kids in for bug bites.

Well, I'm thankful that it's chigger bites and not chicken pox. And, the bites should be gone in a couple of weeks - in time for school to start. The kids first day is August 13th.

Update on teeth

The THUM product that I was so excited about worked for one week. Then our girl decided that the momentary displeasure was outweighed by the pleasure of sucking on her finger so she is once again sucking her finger. ERRRR!

Went to the orthodontist who said the six year old's baby teeth should fall out on their own and she should come back in a couple of years.

And, if youngest daughter stops sucking finger before permanent teeth come in, much of her bite problem should correct itself.

So, we have a bit of time before we need orthodontic services.

teeeth

I took the kids to the dentist on Tuesday no cavities. But, we got an orthodontist referal for the six year old. Inadequate arch length. Not enough room for the adult teeth that are coming in (see picture). We will be going for a consultation with the orthodontist. The dentist thinks they will recommend removal of some baby teeth.
And, the the four year old... really needs to not suck her finger. The dental team suggested the product Thum - see second picture. And, YEA! it's working. It goes on like nail polish and tastes bad. No naps since Tuesday but after some crying she goes to sleep at night and I haven't seen her sucking her finger since the first application.

One Year

We've been homeowners for one year.
We are so thankful that we don't have to move this year.
Here's a picture of our house.

We love our library

My mom was a librarian and my brother is a librarian. I grew up being able to see the public library from our house. I spent lots of time studying in the library during college and I've been taking the kids to the library since they were very little.

Well, this summer the Plainfield library has had a summer reading program. The kids set reading goals and when they reach their goal they get a t-shirt, a book and some other goodies. Well, all four of the kids met their goals and got their shirts.
