ZOO DAY
Today we went to the zoo. It was a great day for it. Nice temperature - around 60, cloudy and a bit breezy. And, there weren't many people out.
It was nice not to be concerned about the kids getting lost in the crowd. There was no crowd.
The two older kids were able to pet the sharks and we all enjoyed seeing the lioness up close. We saw bears, monkeys, the rhino, zebras, desert animals, fish and penguins (they were molting since it's summer in Antarctica), lots and lots of animals.
One of the zoo keepers talked to us about apes and monkeys. I called a gibbon a monkey. Oops! It is not - it is an ape. I learned that monkeys have tails and apes don't. And, the gibbon is a lesser ape - the three great apes are the gorilla, orangutan and chimpanzee. (There's our animal lesson for the day.)
We also saw the dolphin show. The kids sat in the splash zone. I didn't want to get wet - but they did.
It was a good visit to the zoo.
